An overview of our intranet

In the middle there is a Compaq Prosigina running Suse Linux. This computer is placed in the basement in our house. It is our file server and http server. The router filters unwanted packets, and allows only a minimum set of packets. The router uses NAT ( Network Adress Translation) to protect the workstation from malicious attacs. The Wlan (Wireless Local Arean Network) gateway uses the weak WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) encryption, so up to 100 meters from our house the traffic may be dropped. In order to minimize attacs, we're using

• Latest Web Server (Apache)
• Latest Operative System (Suse)
• Updated software for Open Ports 
• SSL - Secure Socket Layer (http://www.openssl.org/)
• SSH - Secure Shell (http://www.openssh.com/)
• FTP - Washington University FTP (WU-FTP).

For the file server we use the latest samba software.
